Dies irae ... 1

오래전에 [2008.02.04. - 03.04.] DIES IRAE 노랫말 解說을 여섯번에 나누어 올린적이 있었습니다만,

LATIN 文學을 전공하신 윤종국신부님께서 새롭게 번역을 하시었기에, 對譯을 바꾸어 다시 정리합니다.

이상철신부님께서 지휘하신, 故 김수환추기경 선종3주년 기념 및 호국영령을 위한 음악회[2012.6.13. SAC]

Verdi 의 Requiem 연주회 program 에서 인용하였습니다. 아울러 Wikipedia site 에 실려 있는 다른 English version 도 함께 소개합니다. 기존 韻文형식에서 벗어난, 때문에 비교적 直譯에 가까운 해석입니다.

Dies irae dies illa  .....  분노의 날, 바로 그날 

solvet saeclum in favilla  .....  ___ ___  세상이 불꽃으로 녹아내리도다.     [參考-1]

teste David cum Sibylla  .....  시빌라와 함께 하는 다윗의 증언으로      [參考-2]

 

The day of wrath, that day

will dissolve the world in ashes,

as foretold by David and the Sibyl.  

 

Quantus tremor est futurus  .....  ___ ___ 크나큰 공포가 오는 날      [參考-3]

quando judex est venturus  .....  심판관이 오시는 날

cuncta stricte discussurus  .....  모든 것을 엄히 다스리시도다

 

How much tremor there will be,

when the judge will come,

investigating everything strictly. 

 

Tuba mirum spargens sonum  .....  오묘한 나팔소리      [參考-4]

per sepulcra regionum  .....  만방의 무덤에서

coget omnes ante thronum  ..... 모든 이 불러 옥좌 앞에 모으도다.

 

The trumpet, scattering a wonderous sound

through the sepulchres of the regions,

will summon all before the throne. 

  

Mors stupebit et natura  .....  죽음과 세상 경악하리니     [參考-5]    

cum resurget creatura  .....  피조물이 부활하여

judicanti responsura  .....  심판자께 응답하리라 

 

Death and nature will marvel,

when the creature arises

to respond to the judge.

 

Liber scriptus proferetur  .....  ___ ___ 기록된 책 펼쳐지니

in quo totum continetur  .....  모든 것     [參考-6] 

unde mundus judicetur  .....  세상 심판 받으리라. 

 

The written book will be brought forth,

in which all is contained, 

from which the world shall be judged. 

 

Judex ergo cum sedebit  .....  그러므로 심판관께서  좌정하실 때

quidquid latet apparebit  .....  무엇이나 밝히 드러나     [參考-7]

nil inultum remanebit  .....  어떤 것도 징벌 없이 남아 있지 않으리라.  

 

When therefore the judge will sit,

whatever hides will appear,

nothing will remain unpunished.

- flamma -ae [f] : a flame, blaze, blazing fire, 불꽃 

- favilla -ae [f] : glowing ashes, (불꽃이 살아있는) 재

- cinis -eris [m] : ashes, 재(灰)

 

[參考-2]

- cum Sibylla [시빌라와 함께하는]는 위의 illa 및 favilla 와 같은 rhyme (同韻語) 임

- 여기서 David 는 정통믿음의 상징, Sibylla 는 이교도믿음의 상징으로 생각하는 이도 있음

- stanza 2  첫 句節의 English version 이 直譯에 가까운 解釋입니다

- 얼마나 크나큰 공포가 있을것인가

- spargens : scattering, 흩어지면서

- 이 句節을 문법에 따라 정리하면 : 나팔은 오묘한 소리를 울려 보내며

- stanza 4 의 English version 이 비교적 直譯에 가까운 解釋일듯

- 심판자에 응답하러, 피조물이 부활할 때, 주검과 세상(만물) 경악하리라

- 더하여 natura 의 의미중에는 birth (태어남)의 뜻도 있음 ; mors 의 對語

- (지금은) 무엇이나 숨겨진 것이라도 (그때에는) 밝히 드러나리라

- lateo -ere : to be hidden, to be concealed, 숨겨지다
